Origin Story
About 5,000 years ago, a massive iron meteorite hurtled through Earth’s atmosphere, slamming into the remote desert sands of southern Egypt. The impact created the Gebel Kamil Crater, an extraordinary site surrounded by thousands of jagged iron fragments. Despite the dramatic event, the crater remained unknown to modern science until its rediscovery on February 19, 2009, via satellite imagery.
