This is a beautiful high-quality Saffordite, also known as a Cintamani Stone, from Arizona. Saffordite is also referred to as Arizona Tektite or American Moldavite. Its actually a pseudo-tektite similar to Colombianite, formed from the intense heat and pressure of an ancient volcanic explosion which occurred millions of years ago in the region which is now known as the American Southwest.
These fascinating stones are believed to have formed around 30 million years ago and are found within a limited area of roughly a 100 square mile radius.
Unique Surface Characteristic
This specimen displays a rare “melt-etched flow pattern” surface, featuring subtle glossy grooves and natural directional textures. These markings appear to have formed while the material was still in a semi-molten state.
This type of surface is not commonly seen and adds a unique level of character and collectibility.
