Moldavite is a member of the tektite group, a glassy mixture of aluminum oxide, silicon dioxide and other metal oxides. It's has a hardness of about 6. The color of most Moldavite is deep forest green, though some are a paler green than others. Moldavite was formed when a large meteor crashed down in what is now the Bohemian plateau of the Czech Republic, around 14.8 million years ago.
