Colombianite holds immense significance for the Colombian Indians, particularly the Musica Tribe in the northwestern region of Colombia. Known as “Piedra Rayo” (Lightning Stone or Light Stone), this sacred stone is revered by the Shamans of the tribe. They use it in rituals to connect with the gods and for divination purposes.
Colombianite is much rarer than Moldavite, and its true nature remains a mystery. While many believe it to be a tektite, it is actually a pseudotektite formed from remnants of ancient volcanic explosions from the Oligocene Era, approximately 30 million years ago.
