Beautiful Nevada Number Eight Turquoise Nugget. This Turquoise was mined in Eureka Country Number Eight mine just outside of Carlin, Nevada. This mine is now closed and no longer produces Turquoise. The mine was discovered in 1925 and only gold is mined there presently. It weighs 12.25 grams and 61.25 carats. The measurements are 1.0" long and 0.75" wide. This beautiful Turquoise specimen comes with a floating stone display case and a velvet carrying bag.

The word Turquoise is derived from the French word pierre turquoise meaning "Turkish Stone". This is due to the trade routes that reached Europe from mines that were located in Southeast Asia that went through Turkey in which merchants use to purchase the beautiful stone from Turkish markets. Turquoise beads date back to 5000 B.C. making it one of the longest used of all gemstones. The Egyptians were also known to mine Turquoise. Turquoise has also been used throughout history as jewelry, as well as amulets and the hilts of swords. About 1,000 years ago, Native American began to mine and fashion Turquoise. The highest quality Turquoise comes from Afghanistan, Iran, Southwestern United States, Tibet and Australia. It's believed to be a stone for finding truth and wholeness. Its also believed to be a stone that aids in communication as well as manifestation. Its a stone that harmonizes with the throat and heart chakras.
