The Chelyabinsk Meteorite fell to Earth on February 15, 2013. Located in Russia close to the Ural Mountains. The massive fireball l, glowing 30 times brighter than the sun. It weighed 10,000 tons as it moved from the southeast and became visible at about an altitude of 62 miles. The fireball had a large smokey trail and moving at about 43,000 mph. As a result of the meteorite impact about 1,500 people were affected. Most injuries were caused by broken glass from windows blown out from the massive shock wave. You can view this meteor event on YouTube. Holding these specimens and watching the footage is truly awesome.

A chondrite is a stony non-metallic meteorite that has not been modified. The percentage of meteorites that are stony or chondrites is believed to be between 85.7% and 86.2%. Magnets do adhere to these meteorites since there is a small amount of iron and nickel.
